Swan of Tuonela / War Crimes Split

This record goes dumb hard. Swan of Tuonela, who I firmly believe are one of the best young bands in the Mid- Atlantic, fucking kill it once again. War Crimes, who I have never heard before, surprised the shit out of me with how good they play. This split should be greatly appreciated because the dark hardcore/emotional hardcore circuit can become quite stale and derivative of other groups to the point where it becomes "if I wanted to listen to a band that sounds like Jeromes Dream I would just listen to Jeromes Dream". Luckily, both of these bands are legit enough that the above example is never the case. Year of the fucking YOUNGS, I swear to Baph. Check out the split, download it, and support the fuck out of these bands and ones like them because this kind of shit is going to save emotional post-hardcore from going pop and stale. Feel me? Word.

Swan of Tuonela

Swan of Tuonela is a young buck post-rock screams band from Virginia. The dudes are in hella other bands, so if you get down with Caust, Kilgore Trout, Dial Up or Halcyon then you should check this out. They did a lil tour recently and we played with them at their drummer's parents house in Alexandria. Shit was dope. All the bands were sick. I had never listened to Swan before that evening but was pretty impressed by it. I normally shit on post-rock scream bands, but this was pretty cool. They describe themselves as being dreamy, which I suppose I agree with. The spacey parts are pretty spacey, but don't really drag on too long. It's interesting to note that when the band is being all spaced out and shit it takes a hot minute for them to build it up or whatever, but then when they get going and decide to flip the "screamo time" switch it gets real fast and aggro. It's a nice juxtaposition of sound. Check it out, check out their other bands, and support the homies. Word.
