Alright so this dude emailed me the other day and not much was going on so I checked out his band. I was pleasantly surprised, for real though. Cougar In The Workplace was from Boston and played from 2007 to 2009. They are instrumental and sound alot like a less technical Ghosts and Vodka, I guess. Its like noodle kinda bouncy a little, but its nice feel good chill times jams. They have two albums, "Ninefours EP" and and self titled diddy. I prefer the self titled diddy. Kind of sucks that this band is no longer around because they were pretty dope. Anyways yeah, check it out and shit. Got a video this time, dig it. dig it. For real though, dig it.

I also didnt post it, so I redownloaded all their other shit from other blogs when I coulda just got it all from here. Funny. Since our last post they have put out some more shit, which is below. I have been sick all weekend. I feel like I am dying. The coldest of head colds. Last week Matsuri and Father;Lonesome played in my living room. There were six of us here, so we sat on the couch and played Magic while Matsuri and Father played. I'm going to throw up some F;L in the next few days, I've just been Jabba The Hut in my weakened state. Heres Matsuri's entire set:
Anyways, this post is about Pussy Babies, which is made up of Cheese and I. You may know Cheese from his late label Unity Through Harmony, his bands An Archer's History or Our Parents Forgot Us, or from being the мища roadie and manager on all of our musical endeavors excluding our most recent tour. I wasn't going to ever post these but Cheese is going back to jail and I miss him already. FREE PIMP CHEESE.
We started this project last summer but never really did anything aside from fuck around every once in a while. Recently Cheese rode his bike up to Olympia from Santa Cruz with his friend and he lived with me for like two months. During the Stanley Cup we got drunk and wrote these two songs. Each one took a day. We wanted to write more but we never had the time. I also wanted to record them decently but he left to go back to Pennsylvania before anything could go down.
This shit isn't that good, but its cool. Pretty simple and kinda sloppy. Pretty jankity recordings but its not horrible. Sounds decent for a bedroom with a single microphone. We recorded them so we could remember them later, but I wanted to put these up en memorium. I hope that whenever we meet up again we can do more. The three tracks are below. Word.
A while ago I posted this bands split with The Usual, and now they have recorded a four song Ep called "A Little Note To Say Hello". I was pretty stoked when the band sent me this release because it had been too long, in my opinion, since they produced any new recorded material. I assume the line up has stayed the same since the split mentioned above. Migrations is a three piece instrumental group from Hagerstown, MD.
"A Little Note" is darker than their previous material. Still somewhat atmospheric, the band tends to stay rather conservative in their song structure, creating steady progressions and solid melodies throughout all the songs. Imagine a chilled out Red Sparrows. I am glad that people are still making this kind of music. Also, any record that uses a sound clip from "There Will Be Blood" is worth listening to at least once. Thursday night was fucking cold. I'm talking like ten degrees cold. For some reason I thought that it would be a great idea to not wear a jacket during the walk from the car to The Blue House, and to my surprise it wasn't that bad. Thank you Cannabis and other plant I can't spell. We arrived at the show like a half hour after the show was supposed to start. We heard a band playing, but it wasn't Tera so we just stood outside and smoked. This was the first house show I have been to in Olympia, so I had no idea what to expect. We made our way down to the basement, which was pretty nice, and watched the first band play. The band was made up of the kids who lived in the house, I forget what they were called. It was okay. They did the switcheroo like twice with drums and guitar. One cool thing that they did was use some effect to make some Red Sparrowes-esque effect on the guitar that sounded like wind or something. Tera Melos played second and it was pretty sweet. The guitar was a bit low, and the vocals were pretty high, but it may have been because I was standing behind the band near the bass cab. I didn't think I was going to like the new drummer because I normally don't like it when bands switch members, but this dude was legit. The guitarist, who looked like he was shrooming, was the focal point of the set, aside from the kid playing the bells and unplugging the guitar amp and the kid who was freaking the fuck out the whole time. We have dubbed that dude Freak Out Kid. This was the second time I have seen this kid, the first was at a Kidcrash show in Portland. There is a video of him, and when I get it it will be up here. Anyways, Tera played a few songs that I'm guessing are off their new album, I didn't know them but they were pretty cool. They also played a Pantera cover, a bunch of songs from "A Complex Full of Phantoms", and some melodies. "40 Rods" was also played. After Tera was done we left. Tera Melos is a math-rock band from California that has evolved from a noodley instrumental band to a more effects driven math-rock band with vocals. Aside from their full lengths they have a split with By The End of Tonight and an EP of covers. Its all below, as well as a video from way back in the day. Word.
Neil On Impression is a instrumental band from Italy. They share members with screamo giants Raein, and were going to do a split with Kidcrash, but apparently that is no longer happening. I first heard them lurking Raein's shit, and then I found all their music on the blog Good Noisy Core. If you've never been to that blog, you should check it out, real good shit. Anywho, the band uses guitars, drums, bass, strings and other percussions, keys, and horns. Their sound is kinda epic, with all the build ups and heavy quasi-breakdowns along with really nice melodies, driving rhythms, slow pretty parts, and spacy shit. The horn reminds me of the horns on the American Football records. Theres some electric shit thrown in sometimes, but trust me, it sounds really nice. They have three albums out, one of which, L'oceano Delle Onde Che Restano Onde Per Sempre, just recently was released. I think they are signed to Denovali. I recommend that you should check these guys out if you are into Explosions In The Sky, K. C. Milian, Caspian, and/or 65daysofstatic. Below is a live video from a show they did in Italy. Sound quality rules. I also all three of their albums down there. On a side note, I saw Cursive recently at The Black Cat and it fucking ruled. I have no idea if they are still on their tour, but if they are I suggest you go see them, its fucking incredible.
K.C. Milian was an Italian instrumental band. They released one demo, a split with La Quiete, and an EP. Their sound is more chilled out, like Explosions In The Sky, but has some pretty sweet buildups. They are not very mathy or rocking, like Tera Melos and By The End Of Tonight, but their song layouts are similar to that of Piglet. Also, some songs have a trumpet, and another has some buried/distant screaming, but I can't really decipher what they are saying, so it may be in Italian, unlike Raein who tend to have English vocals. I read on a blog that the guitarist has tried to start other bands, but none have been as successful. It was really hard to find these albums, especially Season//Repeat. I can't find any videos, but, here are both of their last.fm accounts where you can hear their songs. They have two because their name is commonly misspelled, so heres number 1 and 2. Enjoy!
