Laurel/Let's Split

Laurel

Laurel and Let's. Two bands from Baltimore (or the suburbs thereof) who are really great. We've already covered Let's here before. This split features all three of the songs that were featured on their demo plus one more, "Confusing," which is a folky acoustic jam that anyone who is familiar with The Summer We Went West is sure to appreciate. It sounds like it could easily have been one of the band's b-sides, or even a song from member Erik Peuckonis's other current project, Boat Water (which also feature vocalist/guitarist Jon of Let's).

Laurel plays a slaphappy brand of emo with the same influences of just about every other band playing this style of music today, but they do it in a way that's a hell of a lot of fun, with hooks that will get stuck in your head for days. The highlights of their side of the tape are "Shamu (Sister)" and "Wait For You".

This release was limited to 100 cassettes, and you probably won't be able to get your hands on one unless you go see one of either of the band's live. So, go see them!

Army of Kashyyyk

ARRRMMMYYYYYY OF KAAASSSSHHHYYYYYYYYYYKK is an emoviolence band from Baltimore. Over past year they have broken up and gotten back together more times than most of us have gotten laid, but as of right now they are together. Their next show is at Barclay House on the first of June, so make sure you check that out if you're in the neighborhood.

Army's sound is a solid mix of driving thrash and emotional hardcore breaks. They are part of the vast Dawn Treader family, sharing members with dudes from Pansori, Let's, Osceola, and a few others I'm sure. We have both seen these guys numerous times and no matter where it is everyone goes ape shit. My favorite memory of Army of Kashyyyk is by far an Outclassed show at Bearacougar's Pleasure Island when I had to stand on a washing machine in order to avoid being trampled to death.

Anyways, Army of Kashyyk rule, and they are really cool dudes, so you should give them a listen. Also, I think you can buy stuff from them, so make sure to do that. Heres a video and all their stuff I could find.

Word.

Let's

Let's

Let's is a trio of fine young men from Baltimore. Members Jon, Lou, and Erik have played and currently in a few other Baltimore bands, including Army of Kashyyyk, The Summer We Went West, Pansori, and ROTA.

Their sound is gritty and melodic, and reminds me of some of the older Braid with plenty of nice, heavy parts and sweet drumming. All I've got is three songs from these guys so far, they've only been around a few months. Enjoy!

Download if you're a fan of Braid, The Summer We Went West, Cap'n Jazz, or Monument.
