Hey, so I got a lil double whammy today. First we have the upcoming 7" by Philly supergroup Stable Boys. It's got members of Algernon Cadwallader, Glocca Morra, Snowing/SSC/Hightide Hotel, and Kite Party. Pretty stacked right? I posted their lil two song diddy a while back but my go-between Reid just sent me their newest joint. It is, without a doubt, off the chain. Really super highly recommended. If Stable Boys haven't blown up yet they will soon.

Part two of this post focuses on Sam Rudich's label Ranch Records. I haven't ever met the dude, but I saw Street Smart, Algernon, Slingshot Dakota and Hightide at his house, or his parent's house or something. Seems like a cool guy. He sent me an email a while ago with like five tapes he has put out, all of which are pretty really dope. What I'm gonna do is throw up all the downloads for his tapes, so that way yall can check em out, but I would hope that some of you will buy what you like. The Stable Boys 7" is down there too, I don't really know who is putting it out but keep an eye out for it so you can add it to your sick collection.

Snowmageddon AKA The Snowpocalypse is over.

Owltian Mia were a band from Virgina Beach back in the '90s. They sound kinda like Mineral. I peeped some videos and they had three guitarists and a drummer that sang sometimes. He sings on my favorite song. Last.FM can tell you more than I can:

Owltian Mia formed in Virginia Beach/Norfolk after the break up of Words A Game circa 1995. Inspired by the underground scene before the term Emo was coined, they released a double 7” on Tree Records, called “The Greatest Games Ever Played”. Of course at such a young age you could either blow up and get signed by a larger indie label or disband and go to college. Bobby and Brock both went out of state to pursue art schooling, and the rest of the guys did college in Norfolk and started a band called The Candyland Carcrash. Bobby and Brock would return for the holidays and summers to play shows and record. Always having problems with the line up, by the time they recorded the “4 Track Basement Recording” they were at the end of the Owltian Mia legacy. There is also a song recorded by Bobby and Adam called “Let’s Play” which is a true representation of the final days.

I found a few of their albums, some mislabeled. From what I could gather I have some demo songs, their lil LP, and some unreleased tracks. I found a few live recordings but didn't download them. If you would want something like that I can't really be of too much help, but it wasn't difficult to find. I highly recommend this band to everyone, at least download The Greatest and listen to it once the whole way through.

Irony runs pretty deep today. There is a decent amount of snow on the ground right now, well at least decent for Olympia. Back home it wouldnt be a big deal but up here they don't salt the roads and stuff so shit kinds shuts down. People stay inside and shit. Some dummies don't even have ice scrapers.

The irony is aparent because while all this winter wonderland white Christmas (I'm dreaming of a white MLKJR Day) is going on I'm eating eggs listening to Summer Vacation. I'm okay with it because this is pretty much the same thing I would be doing if it was the summer. Stay inside because its hot, stay inside because its cold.

Summer Vacation are happy pop punk fun from greater Los Angeles. The dudes were in other bands, but I only really actually know Mark Chen, praise be his name, of 10kleagues/moldar/kyeospeakS. The band hasn't really been around for thaaaat long but they have a few releases out. They kinda blew up when they did a 7" with Joyce Manner, which I got in a tight-ass bulk trade with TexasToastDIY.

As far as their tunes are concerned Summer Vacation is the cream of the crop, in my opinion. I don't really listen to too too much pop punk fun times sing along jams but these guys are one of the better bands doing that kinda stuff right now. They do tend to drift away a little and get hard or soft, but for the most part their sound stays pretty close to pop punk fun times. One summer Jack Senff told me that the secret to being in a popular band is having vocals which can be turned into singalongs and shit so the audience gets into it. Although I have never seen SumVaycay I would imagine that a shit ton of kids sing along.

All of their stuff is really good, but the new LP "Condition" takes it to a whole 'nother level. All the songs are really good, but there are a few choice gems on here. I tried to compile a dicography and got as close as I could, even with the help of the band. I think the only thing that is missing is a song or two off of their very first demo. They have some live recordings but I didn't bother to put those on here because they have so much other stuff. You can find all that real easily though. Download this stuff, especially Condition, and then find a way to support them. They play a good bit, and they have some releases that can be bought online (I'm pretty sure).

Alright so Wild Moth is a dark pop band from the greater bay area in California. The dudes have all been invovled in the scene for a minute and are affiliated with a few bands you more than likley have heard of. The band asked me not to mention the groups they have been in because they want this band to stand on it's own feet, which is prettty really respectable. Their songs are about "the way life constantly shits all over you all of the time, anxiety, art and some critical theory".

WM just released an EP. 5 songs. Shit is so good. Its super dark but poppy and kinda garage sounding. Mopey. If you are in the bay keep an eye out for these guys if they arnt already on yoru radar, because I expect some pretty dope things form these guys. This release below is super highly recommended and I hope that if you enjoy this stuff you will find a way to support Wild Moth. Or don't, they are too TRUPUNX to care.

Burn Idols are a super awesome hardcore band from Los Angeles, CA. I met these guys when they went on tour with Calculator and then got to kick it with them real hard when mnwa went to California. Best dudes.

Their sound is kinda really sludgy and pv, super fucking dark. Doom. When I saw them they were a three piece but I'm pretty sure they got a second gutiarist recently. I think homeboy is on the new record, which slays btw. I bump their older stuff all the time and was waiting to chug them because I knew they were writing new material. Their drummer recently sent me their new album "Theodicy" and it fucking rips. This band just stays super heavy and head-bang-worthy. They duel vocals are perfect. I have heard them be compared to Spazz and stuff like that. I see it.

So yeah, below is their newest effort, plus their two previous releases and a video. Please please please download all of this, especially the new jaint. I heard they are going to try to press Theodicy, so when that gets on wax I'm going to put up a link to it so people can support my friends. Get heavy real quick. Starting today Germany's Downfall of Gaia and Virginia / D.C's Vestiges are going to be touring the east coast. Later on next year both bands are going to be doing a tour of Europe and I heard they are supposed to be doing a split too. Fuck yes.

Downfall of Gaia is an amazing crust band. Super heavy, kind of dirty, kind of epic, 100% badass. They have a pretty unique sound because they can be really punk and heavy and then flip it and be all melodic and epic and shit. Overall they tend to stay more on the epic side of the spectrum. I can hear alot of post-rock influence in their tracks. I always love it when heavy bands get a little posty. It looks like their songs tend to be kind of long, which is cool.

Vestiges are just straight up heavy as fuck. Kind of doomy, really metal and melodic, Vestiges don't really seem to be too punk, musically, but instead are living comfortably on the melodic side of the whole heaviest thing you have heard spectrum. They have punk parts though. And a good bit of nice semi-atmospheric post-rock parts. This shit is kind of really evil at times. I havn't heard heavy stuff that was this good in a really long time. Very tastefully organized, and the recording quality is superb.

So yeah, seeing as both these bands are going to be hitting the road together I thought I would give them some much needed attention to attempt to assist in promoting their tour(s), not that they need it though. Both groups are fairly popular, and for good reason: they are amazing. I go to school with one of the Vestiges dudes and he is kind of the man. Obviously, that lil flier thing up there at the top are their dates, and for more specific locations you can check their respective websites and stuff. I know the dates are on facebook. Speeking of facebook, if you are around Maryland you should come to their show in Baltimore, it's going to be a good time. The info and stuff is here.

Below is everything both bands have put out, to the best of my knowledge. There might be a Vestiges demo or something, I don't really know, but homeboy just wanted me to throw their two most recent releases up. I'm pretty sure I have all of Downfall's available material. When both of these bands put new stuff out I will be sure to snag em and share em. Go try and catch this tour. Support these guys in any way you can. You can buy both band's material in a slew of places online, but I would suggest you get that shit on tour so they can get that gas money.

Oh shit, look at that. Its three days 'til Christmas. I Have Dreams were an oldschool emotional post-hardcore band from the '90s. I don't know where they were from. Last.Fm told me this:

I Have Dreams was a screamo/emo band born from the ashes of a band called New Ethic, when their guitar player Daniel died in a car accident. New Ethic played their last show in August, 1998 with Daniel’s best friend Mike Hanson in his place, and it was about a month or two later that I Have Dreams started playing. The band consisted of Allen Compton and Mike Peters on vocals, Mike Hanson on guitar, Ben Seals on bass and Clayton Rychlick on drums.

I Have Dreams were more than a band - in the words of Mike Peters: “It was an attempt to cope with the pain everyone was feeling after Daniel’s death.”

I Have Dreams were together for roughly six months, and they broke up in the Spring (around April/May) of 1999.

I don't know what the deal is with buying their stuff. I would imagine it is hard to find their one release. Below is their only album with a remastered version. Check out the dope live set. Oh yea:

¡Silencio, Ahora, Silencio! is a screamy band from Madrid, Spain. Homeboy says their influences are bands like Ampere and Tristan Tzara, which is aparent. I slept on this band for way too long, even though I guess they have only been around for a few months. Feel like I see their name everywhere.

I downloaded their demo around the time it came out after it was recommended to me, and I can't remember if I dug it or not. This band fell into my lap when I wasn't really kicking it on the computer so I never gave them a real good listen. They poped up again when they did that four way split with Lizards Have Personalities and again, glossed over it but had other shit going on at the time. Then they just put out a split on Bear Records, saw it and was interested but never followed up on it.

Shit is dope though. Their new split is pretty bangin, both sides actually. They are doing a good job with executing different dynamics and stuff in their songs, like the flow is good from part to part and the riffs are normally pretty good or interesting. Harsh vocals, which don't always work on lower quality recordings, sound real good on these. The chill parts are real chill. I enjoy these albums because they do spazzy and stuff well and they also do the whole driving/semi-melodic thing thing really well too, but the key is that they execute their songs in a way that is neither predictable or boring. Sometimes you can listen to a song and guess most of the parts that are coming up, you know, but I feel like SAS keeps it interesting in terms of overall structure. Perfect example = "Lamentos Pretéritos" off of the split with Descubriendo a Mr.Mime.

Solid band. Download all their stuff. Buy what you can (BEAR RECORDS) and support them/their affiliated labels and distros. Watch this video too.

Alot of buzz about Loma Prieta recently. They got signed to Deathwish, who are putting out their upcoming fully "I.V.", and are currently finishing up a tour of the states. Some of those new songs are floating around the internet and stuff. Pretty sure CMHWAK radio got like an exclusive track or something.

Since Loma has been so hot in the collective unconcious as of late I was checking up on them, gettin the haps, when I realized how much I have been slacking on my Loma game. First of all, found the Punch split which is pretty really dope. Secondly, realized that Life/Less wasn't even on here, so I felt obligated to correct that error. Also, Punch has an LP out which we haven't posted yet, so that is going down too. And another EP. I'm not as into Punch as Carlo is so I would have figured he would cover all the Punch stuff. Homeboy was slippin, but its okay because Daddys home now. Needless to say all this music is good, bro. Buy it after you try it, bro.

I'm kind of really bummed because Loma is playing Portland right now, and I'm just baking on my couch watching NOVA and eating my third and fourth can of Chef Boyardee of the day. I don't know if they are going to be in Seattle tomorrow but it doesn't even matter because I have school all night. Growing up sucks.

Pygmy Lush at Golden West Cafe 11/1/11 + MEGAPOST

Most of you are probably very familiar with Pygmy Lush by now. The project has grown to be the most popular of any post Pg. 99 project. In a career that now spans three full length albums and 4 years, as well as tours with groups like Des Ark and Ghastly City Sleep, Pygmy Lush's steady output and presence has made them a mainstay in the DIY scene which most of them have been a part of for over twenty years.

They are infamous for their "loud" and "quiet" sets, with fans often left wondering which band they will see that night - a loud, raucous rock and roll band, or a dynamic folk group. 2007's Bitter River, their debut record showcased both the band's distinctive, and very different, sounds. Lately, the band has embraced mainly their folky side. Their last two LP's contain no "loud" songs, but their excellent offering on their side of 2009's split with Turboslut showcases some of their best material, both loud and soft. Their newest offering, 2011's Old Friends was recorded with Des Ark's Aimee Argote serving as a back up singer/musician on a few of the songs (she is pictured in the photo of the group above), and may be their best recording yet.

Tuesday night's show in Baltimore at the Golden West Cafe on 36th St. came on the heels of an all day recording session with J. Robbins of Jawbox fame. The band was apparently recording a version of "Serve The Servants" for a Nirvana tribute compilation. I missed the first band, Big Mouth, so I can't really say anything about them. Bad Biology played next, a really great kind of grimy, rock and rolly hardcore band featuring members of a couple of other Baltimore bands. It was their first show in about 6 months.

Pygmy Lush headlined, and played mostly material from Old Friends, and opened with the album's excellent first song, "Yellow Hall", a kind of demented sea shanty that translates beautifully to the live stage. They also played "Asphalt", the most instantly recognizable Pygmy Lush song, as well as "Big Black River" from Bitter River upon request from the crowd as an encore.

It was by far the best set I've ever seen the band play, loud or soft. They seemed to be truly enjoying themselves; as they jammed away on the last two songs of their set you could see smiles breaking out on their faces. After the show, Chris Taylor said that they felt liberated by the freedom of playing live after being in the studio all day - they could embrace their mistakes and just have fun. It was certainly visible to everyone in attendance.

Hot off the fucking press. I think. This came out either today or yesterday. Probably yesterday. I saw a video they made (or someone made for them) for their song "I'll Be Damned", and figured this album would be pretty dope. I gotta bounce out in like 20 minutes so I'm listening for the first time while I'm writing this. Who does homework anyways?

So far this album is pretty much exactly what I expected from Pianos Become The Teeth. His vocals sound a little different to me. A little more angsty than they used to be. Thats cool. Still got that atmospheric kinda post rock influenced thing going on (in the vein of COC or ADIBAW) with some hardcore and the tiniest bit of punk. This album seems to be alot darker than their previous efforts. All of the instruments sound really good in these records, I don't know who did it, but it sounds real nice. My only qualm with this record thus far is that the vocals are super high up in the mix and I wish the guitars were a little bit louder. Thats just me. The songs are still epic and whatnot, buildups and all that everywhere, which has sort of become their thing right? Getting all epic. They do it well.

So talk about the wave as much as you want. Compare them to bands that are doing the wave thing. At the end of the day Pianos are a pretty cool band and pretty nice dudes. Topshelf is going to be pissed because I posted this, so just download it before they get me to take it down. Actually, just go buy it from Topshelf (a literal boat load of deals await). It just came out, already on second pressing (btw while listening to "Good Times" it sounded like homeboy said "three breasts")so go jump on it before you cant get a cool colored vinyl or something. I don't know the dates off the top of my head (check their bandpage on facebook, tour is all November and some December full US) but Pianos are going on tour soon with Touche Amore. Again, talk about the wave all you want. I don't want to talk about the wave.

Only For The Sake Of Aching are a pretty dope German screamo band. Kinda punk, kinda just really good skramz. I posted their split with The Third Memory a while ago, hopefully some people snagged that. OFTSOA has mainly put out splits, which is fucking dope. All the bands they have worked with are really cool. There was a collections album released which compiled all of their splits and their EP, which is below. I also just went ahead and added the original releases so yall can get the tracks from the other bands, and because Robot Society has an Intro and Outro which is not on the collection album (unless it is called something different). I'm almost positive you can buy their stuff online so please go do so. Don't think this band is really active anymore but hopefully they will do some new stuff soon.

Alright so this dude emailed me the other day and not much was going on so I checked out his band. I was pleasantly surprised, for real though. Cougar In The Workplace was from Boston and played from 2007 to 2009. They are instrumental and sound alot like a less technical Ghosts and Vodka, I guess. Its like noodle kinda bouncy a little, but its nice feel good chill times jams. They have two albums, "Ninefours EP" and and self titled diddy. I prefer the self titled diddy. Kind of sucks that this band is no longer around because they were pretty dope. Anyways yeah, check it out and shit. Got a video this time, dig it. dig it. For real though, dig it.

So our boy Dylan just dropped his first ever Hip-hop mixtape. Dylan used to play with a band called The Lost Tourists but he has been working on his solo hip-hop project for a long time. He's on tour with LiNK (Liberty in North Korea) right now after touring around the country and basically living the Dude's life.

The Neglected Mixtape (2011)

Marat was a short lived Screamo band from The Netherlands composed of members of the legendary (and soon to be Chug'd) Shikari. In their short short lifespan Marat only put out one release, a four song EP thingy called "Songs From The Crypt". Moment of Collapse put out the 7".

I first heard about this band a while ago when I was looking about Shikari stuff, but I didn't download Marat's record for some reason. The other day I found myself back on MOC's website listening to their media player and zoned out for a second. I zoned back in real fucking fast when I heard the Marat song. Five minutes later I had that shit downloaded.

So yeah, Marat has female vocals! obviously the band sounds somewhat similar to Shikari, but they also use some chords and shit that remind me of Tristan Tzara and stuff (kind of obvious because of time-frame and location? maybe). The first song is kind of slow and chill compared to the other three songs. There is a nice groovy break in the middle. The second song is kind of blistering and heavy, pretty hardcore and stuff. Marat is the kind of screamo band that, instead of being super technical and fast, is just super solid and driving, with some chugs and shit going on. Third song, side B, has some different vocals. Male vocals. Brutal vocals. He kind of does that whimper talk/scream thing for a second and its tight. The riffs in this song are so fucking heavy. Then it gets all epic and stuff and everyone is stoked. Probably thier heaviest track. The last song is MY FUCKING JAM. That fucking riff dude. Sounds so much like "Come On Jane". Way punk, way awesome, this song is just kind of nasty. Like stanky face nasty.

How do you feel about watching a grown ass man weep? What about when this grown man is weeping while he sings? Meet Mo. He plays acoustic jams under the name Father;Lonesome, and this dude makes some of the saddest music I have ever heard. Or seen. Watching him play in my old living room was really intense because we were all just sitting on the couch and he was just swaying back and forth crying and stuff.

Mordekai is from San Jose and was on tour with Matsuri the last time they went on the road. I didn't know what to expect when I heard this dude was on tour with them, but I was pleasantly surprised. When I first met him I asked him about his name and shit and he weaved me a super fucking depressing tale about being a father and shit. A lot of his songs are about his young daughter and his love interest(s?). it would then make sense that most of his band related artwork has to do with his daughter as well. Real life punk shit you guys. Child support and shit. Real. Life. Punk. Shit.

Anyways, Father;Lonesome makes some really great music and I have a bunch of it below. When he was at my place he told me that he read Chug and then gave me alot of shit for free, which ruled. He has an EP and then is featured on a compilation that is to benefit a dude named Omar, who is sick or something. Sorry that I don't really know more about what that dude has or whatever, all I know is that he has a disease and his friends, some of whom are my friends, put together a compilation to help him out. I have that benefit compilation for download below, and I strongly encourage you to email Texas Toast DIY or Olhar De Vidro and give them some money for the For Omar compilation. Aside from Mo, I think all the tracks are solo songs from the Matsuri bros.

Since the last time I posted about this project Megan and Amelia (Ryan of Matsuri/DEERS!) has put our two more demos. "Our First" is made up of two of the original songs and three new ones. Still lo-fi and awesome. Reverb drenched vocals and shit. "Secret Buffalo" has what sounds like a ukelele, in "Mountain Mountain" he uses a piano and "It Never Dies" kind of has a more conventional feel to it. "Our Second" just has one long song on it, and that shit is the mother fucking jam. Seriously. Put that shit on repeat. Great structure and instrumentation, and even though its obviously recorded on jank mics through a jank whatever it sounds real warm and nice. No shit, I have repeated this song at least 5 times in a row. While I would argue that it is almost always better to listen to music with headphones than computer speakers (unless you have a boss ass system in your closet like this guy) you really wont catch a lot of the subtleties of Megan and Amelia unless you are wearing headphones. I would also imagine that these were mixed with headphones so this is how they were intended to be heard.

When I saw Ryan on Matsuri's last lil tour they did we talked about Megan and Amelia and good bit. He was telling me that he wanted to have other people play with him, live at least. I don't know if that has materialized or anything but I hope it does. Facebook tells me that he has been playing a good amount of shows in the bay, which is fucking awesome. I love Ryan and I love Megan and Amelia, and you mother fuckers really need to download this stuff. At least blow up his bandcamp. I couldn't find any videos, sorry.

Lester Freamon is a screamo band from Las Vegas. One of the dudes is also in Ruined Tongue, and I think some of the other dudes are in a band called Ein. Alex, who is in Ruined Tongue, is also one of the two dudes who run Radical Friends. Pretty radical.

So Lester is doing a lot of shit right now, apparently. Their new 7" is called "Natural Police" and is going to be put out by Moment of Collapse real soon, which is totally radical. Friends For Life is putting it out on tape too. Radical. Homeboy also told me that LF is going to be doing some splits real soon, and Moment of Collapse is going to be apart of that shit too. Radical. They were a part of a tape compilation called "The Monster Mash Volume 1" which was done by Plastic Smile Records, I can't find the album online but it sounds pretty dope. CMHWAK told me the lineup and the bands are pretty cool.

So yeah, Natural Police. All the tracks are pretty dope, abrasive and driving at times and then groovy at other times. Pretty nice to hear bands making this kind of music in the midst of all the other stuff that is going on nowadays. I guess if i had to compare this band to other bands I would say they remind me, kind of, of bands like William Bonney, a little bit of Kidcrash, and a tiny bit of Off Minor. Those are the only three that come to mind at the moment. I don't know.

Fuck it. This shit is cool so you should download it. When the 7 inch comes out you should snag it. Hopefully I'll be in the loop when their splits drop or whatever so I can share those bad boys. Pretty stoked on this band at the moment. Buy stuff from Radical Friends too. They are Radical. Couldn't find any videos, I mean there are a lot of jankity videos from shows but I can't tell if its them or not. Oh well. Word.

Right here is that new Kidcrash joint everyone has been waiting for. They released at least one of these songs on soundcloud or something a while ago, I'm pretty sure it was just a lil clip or something, but ever since then I've been excited for this shit and curious as to what it would sound like. I found this last night on Music As Heroin, so I mean if it's on the internet I might as well put it up you know.

This album is a really nice progression from Snacks. While still staying away from both of their older sounds and progressing with the more mature shit from Snacks, Naps is an excellent mix of Kidcrash's almost signature groovy riffs with some nice post-hardcore elements thrown in there. This lil 4 song diddy is a little harder than Snacks, but still keeps it really fucking chill. As normal, the instrumentation on all the songs are fucking superb. I also really dig the vocals on this album. Or EP. I guess it's an EP. My Favorite song right now is the third song, Misogamist.

You really should snag a copy of the 12" from Init if you haven't already. I feel like this record is going to move really really fast, so get your copy now. Some vinyl geeks are gonna be bummed because first pressing black/white is already sold out, now they just have to get boring black or white. Boo boo.

Well, it's been a really fucking long time since I've uploaded anything to this blog. I have to say thank you to Robbie for keeping up with this so well. Shit's been a little crazy to say the least.

I'll be easing myself back into the flow of posting with this little gem, which I was lucky enough to stumble upon at Mystery Train Records in Amherst, Massachusetts just this Wednesday, actually.

This record was actually pressed on a whoooole bunch of different color combinations, in regards to the vinyl itself as well as the color of the cover and band's logo. My copy is on black vinyl and with black art and green text, one of the original approximately 1500 or so that seemed to be pressed. There were several later pressings as well, from what I understand.

Jawbreaker's Busy 7" dropped in '89, the year before their debut LP Unfun, would be released. The title track of this 7" would also be featured on that LP, but the b-side, "Equalized," would remain a vinyl only track until the release of the band's b-side collection Etc.

The band certainly deserves their status as one of the seminal bands of their day, and this 7" showcases their brooding, visceral approach to punk. It seems strange to think that Unfun was released over 20 years ago, as it still seems to fresh every time I take it out and spin it (the 20th anniversary remaster souunds amazing, try to find one if you haven't yet!). Jawbreaker continues to influence and excite kids all over the world. There seems to be at least one kid in a bootleg Jawbreaker t-shirt at any punk show you go to anymore. You know the one I'm talking about, with the Morton Salt girl on it.

Anyway, check out this great record from this great band. Hopefully records like this will never die and always sound as relevant as they still do to some of us right now.

Alright so this weekend there is a pretty cool noise festival going on in Virginia (Fairfax/Alexanderia) that was thrown together by Rainbow Bridge Recordings. Rainbow Bridge is run by Justin Lloyd, who is involved in way too many bands to keep track of, but a few you may have heard of are A Perfect Kiss, Age Sixteen or Sawhorse. Did Sawhorse ever get big outside of Maryland?

Justin does alot of solo stuff aside from bands. He has a fuck ton of monikers but each one is pretty really different. The easiest way I can describe it is that he is either, basically, making experimental/noise shit, or he is making ambient shit. As for the experimental stuff:

"there are three but the approaches are completely different... false flag is super harsh and thick and all anti-new world order/anarchist-ish subjects with vocals a lot of the time. inappropriate king live is just field recordings ive processed. so you could call those both noise, but pregnant spore is noise, and is the main shit i do. all live stuff"

On the chiller side of things we have Dementia and Hope Trails, Sensible Nectar and The Human Excuse. All Lovley. His label is used to, of course, put out his own stuff but he also works with other people too. He seems to go on tour alot, so I'm guessing he has a pretty successful network or something. I don't really follow Rainbow Bridge too hard, but I generally enjoy what he puts out. He did a Pansori split tape, fuck yeah.

I'm not going to copy/paste all that bullshit, just go there and get it. But for real go there and get it. Then, go check out this festival because its a fucking festival and its something to do. Become involved. Go be smart and talk about smart music.

Dominic is a four piece post hardcore/screamo band from Norway. They have been around since 2004 and have a slew of releases out with tons of dope labels, including Denovali, Ape Must Not Kill Ape and Utarid Tapes. If you go to their facebook and get on their discography you can see all the different formats their stuff is on and who put it out.

Dominic's music is pretty driving and melodic. Shit can get kind of crazy at times, but for the most part they stay somewhat linear. It's not twinkly or mathy or spazzy, just good solid post hardcore, you know? I've been listening to this band on and off for a while not, but recently I started bumping them alot harder because I found their new stuff. It is so good. I mean its all really good, but their new stuff is dope. Nord made me feel happy about new music that is coming out.

THE FUCKING REIGNING KINGS OF CRUST. If you have never listened to Germany's Alpinist then you are a fucking idiot. This shit is the bomb. Literally. My speakers are exploding with doomy crust goodness, and have been almost all day.

They just did a tour here in America, I don't know for how long or anything but they did it with Masakari for a split LP they recently put out. Homeboys were up here in Olympia at New Direction Fest, but I didn't have twenty buxx. I wanted to get a ride down to where the show was so I could just sit outside and scowl, but I couldn't even get a ride. Disappointment life.

Honestly, for real though, this is crust. All of their albums are a brutal onslaught of punk shit and some of the heaviest shit you have ever heard. Riffs for days and days. And days. Sometimes its almost speed metal, which is awesome as fuck. EVERYONE WHO IS READING THIS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU LIKE CRUST/DOOM/HEAVY AS BALLS YOU NEED TO GET THIS SHIT BECAUSE YOU WILL ENJOY THE FUCK OUT OF IT. Remember Tempest, who I posted a while ago? Well, its like that except way more brutal in every way. Again, THE FUCKING KINGS OF CRUST.

So a kid I met a while ago has a label based out of Portland called Friends For Life that is putting out zines and tapes. He was telling me that he is going to be putting out some new jaints from Carrion Spring and Leaster Freemon in the near future, so when those are out you should pick them up if you are into those bands. They just put out a compilation/teaser/sampler whatever that is similar in idea to the 75:24 compilation put out by Tickle Butt. They put it up for free download but also put this shit on tape, which is the labels first release. Friends For Life are also doing a distro, and if you buy this sampler you get a free hand screened Oker cd.

PDX2011 is a compilation tape made up of 14 bands that are all friends from the Portland area. The Tracklisting is as follows:

Alright so all the bands on this compilation are good enough to give the album at least one complete listen. Alot of genres are on this release, and you may very well not enjoy some of the songs. I think that out of all the bands on here the ones that really stuck out for me were Sloths, Cower, and Oker. I have the Oker cd and have been meaning to post it up here, but this song is so good. I'm calling it so hard: Oker is going to be a big deal, and I hope it is sooner rather than later. As for Cower, I had heard about them alot from people and this was my first time listening to it and I was disappointed with the fact that I couldn't really get into it. On the other hand, like Cower I have heard alot about Sloths, and that shit blew me away. Was not expecting that at all and I really really dig it. Kotten Dik is tight as shit too.

Overall this is a super solid compilation. I think that everyone, no matter what their preferred style of music is, will be able to find some shit on here that they really enjoy. Alot of dope stuff going on in Portland and it seems like no one is really giving them too much attention on a national scale. Some real talent is kicking it in PDX these days and I'm stoked on all those dudes right now. Really good people, really good times, please please please download this and then buy it from FFL's big cartel. Only like 125 of these things are going to be made and if you wait around you probably aren't gonna be able to get your hands on this shit. Keep a look out for Friends For Life Records in the tape and zine world. Word.

I'm going home in a week, and I don't think I'm going to bring my computer. If I don't then I wouldn't be posting anything for two weeks, so until I leave I'm going to try to do a post every day.

Mass Movement Of The Moth are from D.C, which I did not know until I looked up their information. I actually really lucked out with this one because I had a few of their releases and what-have-you but I remember back when I first got their stuff I couldn't find a few releases. Recently someone made them a website that had their discography up for download and shit. You can check it out here. I ended up just redownloading everything directly from here, but I re-uploaded them to my mediafire just in case for whatever reason their links die or something.

Anyways, Mass Movement Of The Moth was around from 2004 to 2007 and in that time released 7 albums. The album "Beyond" looks like a collection of unreleased stuff, which I would imagine was put together after the group disbanded. The music they played is kind of hard to describe. Its heavy and kind of experimental I suppose, but it is also really groovy and stuff at times while still being pretty dark ("Stuck in the Segue" off the split with The Catalyst has a brooding march for the second half of the track and while listening to it my room mate said it sounded like "some Cthulhu shit"). If you want to call it screamo you can (happens all the time here on the internet), but I wouldn't really say they are a "screamo band". All in all they are a post-hardcore band. They incorporate so much shit in each of their tracks and use so many different dynamics that it makes every song sound different, which is always very enjoyable. I like that they can essentially play whatever the fuck they want and it turns out really good, you know? Sometimes bands try to blend genres and shit in their songs and it doesn't really work out.

The split with The Catalyist is very produced and experimental post-hardcore. The split with Sing! Sing! Prison! is hard and rough around the edges, but still incorporates some weird shit. The Polar split is way gritty and groovy hardcore. Funually has remixes and demos and stuff. Finale and finally are different versions of the same album, both really heavy. Outerspace is complex and dynamic, but not as heavy as most of their other stuff, this album is more post-hardcore.

So yeah, download these tracks if you don't have them already and support the band as best as you can. Their website has links to distros and stuff so make sure you snag some of their merch. It's a shame they broke up because they would have been really dope to see live.

PG.99 D.C REUNION SHOW

So in case you have not been near a fucking computer for the past few months, Pg.99 recently did two reunion shows. One was at Best Friends Day and the other was at The Black Cat in D.C. The BFD show had like Strike Anywhere and Converge on it and the D.C show had Thou and Circle Takes The Square on board. I didn't go to either because of school, but NPR surprisingly gave a few fucks and showed up to the gigs. NPR interviewed the Taylors a little before BFD (link in article below), and at the D.C show they were kind enough record the entire thing. Below is a link to the spot where you can listen to Pg.99's set, and there are two links next to the article where you can hear CTTS and Thou. Shit is pretty dope. Love Like… Electrocution

Love Like… Electrocution was an Australian band that was around, roughly, from '02 to '06. The band is made up of members of Slackjaw and St. Alban's Kids. Their sound sounds similar to the other emo-violence bands around that time, like Kodan Armada or Tunes For Bears to Dance To. You know, sometimes were screaming sometimes were singing kinda thing. LLE had two vocalists I think, which is one of the old-school aspects I wish people would bring back.

While their sound is pretty EV, their post-hardcore/emo roots run pretty deep and create a constant backdrop to whatever they are doing. Some of the instrumentation sounds like Hot Cross and the more technical post-hardcore bands. It is a shame that when recording they focused so hard on bringing the vocals to the foreground when the instruments, which should be brought up to be able to be fully appreciated, are left dangling in the background.

Old school gem, Love Like... Electrocution are no more but leave us with some great shit. As far as the band goes, they never really left general Australia, only making it out as far as New Zealand to tour. While in Australia they got to play with some pretty big bands, according to their Last.fm. I don't like to do this, but below is a video of just one of their songs. It isn't live. This way you can at least hear a song before you download their stuff, but if you don't download this then you are a fucking idiot. Unless you already have it, then that's cool.

I managed, after much stress and frustration, to find all of their recordings. Their first release was an EP called "She Was Red Hot". Then they did a full length, self titled, which was "She Was Red Hot" plus some new tracks. After that they did a demo, followed by a tour split with This Night Creeps. The split took forever to get a hold of. If you like This Night Creeps I have their full length which I can link in a comment or something. Anyways, download all their stuff below and then go on your favorite message board and try to buy some of their vinyl or cds. The LP isn't that hard to find.

Wild Guess was a band from Portland, OR that was made up of members of Kidcrash/Logs and Oker. Alex and Paul from Logs switched instruments and started playing chiller music after Logs was done. Because all of the members travel the band has been around for a while but has not been too active. They actually played their last show at my house with Ten Thousand Leagues. Unfortunately there was no video.

Wild Guess sounds like Logs but more chunky and grown up. It isn't wild or heavy or chaotic or anything that would make them a hardcore band. They are not a hardcore band. They are a driving punk band, but at times you can hear parts that sound like Logs. They only recorded four songs, as far as I know. I would not be surprised if they recorded an album but are just sitting on it like they did with Hogz. I really enjoy their recordings, but live they blew me away.

Jared, the drummer, is in a band called Oker that is on tour right now with Kidcrash. Yes, Kidcrash is doing a little tour or something. I don't know any details about these shows or I would post up dates. I don't know if the new Kidcrash is available yet either. I also don't know what the deal is with Wild Guess music on a physical medium. All I know is that Paul is going to Turkey for college and Alex makes heads and stuff for his company called Science. His business partner also has the hookup for tubes and amp parts. You should check it out here. Alex used a Hellhawk when they played my house and that shit sounded so good.

No videos, just the EP. Download it and keep a lookout for these dudes other bands. If you can think of a way to support them then do that. If you have not heard of Edhochuli (read Ed Hock You Lee) then you are missing the fuck out. Named after a football ref who fucked over the Pittsburgh Steelers, ED consists of members of the sorely missed Outclassed. I think they all were in Outclassed at one time, but I'm not 100% sure. They hold it down for Pittsburgh really hard along with their dudes Worn Out Tigers & Who Goes There.

Alright, so musically this shit is off the chain. It of course sounds somewhat similar to Outclassed because they share so many members but they have perfected their own sound that separates them from their former band. While there are still Jon Ahn's crazy bass parts and over all good time rock and roll riffs, Edhochuli seems to be more rock and roll than Outclassed was.

Their first Demo, which was just two songs that sounded like they were recorded live at a practice on a computer, were raw and heavy as shit. You can only hear the vocals on two parts of the whole mini demo which are buried deep in fuzz. Kinda metal, the two songs incorporate a lot of high end guitar work and fist pumping rhythms. Total Black Sabbath style.

The second Demo thing, which is called "Edhochuli Is One Word", was produced alot better. It sounds like there was some time and effort put into the production of the tracks which is really nice because you can actually hear all of the parts that are going on. You can also hear the vocals very clearly. I like how they still use similar feedback to Outclassed's final EP. The first song is pretty metal, creating a dark atmosphere that turns very brooding towards the middle. The track is slow and rolls along with so many rock riffs. Guitar solos too. The second song is a re-recording of one of the 2 song demo songs. This is one of my favorite songs of theirs, but I think I like the 2 song demo more although they sound very very similair. The third song is another metal as shit song that starts off slow, gets heavy, and then gets real heavy and punk before it kind of chills out at the end. Song four showcases their dynamics as a band really well in my opinion because it has so many parts that are different. Second to last song is the club banger and the last song is in my opinion the best song on the track. The guitar parts of that last track are so fucking good. This song is also on the 2 song demo and fucking rules on that release too.

Over the years I have kind of gotten to know some of these guys from going to see Outclassed, their close relationship to alot of Baltimore kids, and the fact that I have been able to play shows with Edhochuli. Hanging out with the Pittsburgh kids will produce one of the most comfortable out of town hangouts you will ever experience. Homeboys know how to party. Edhochuli just recently released a split with Amaget which is being put out by Riotous Outburst records. I do not have the tracks to that split, but you can listen to both side of the split here. They are also going to be doing a split with Pansori, but I don't know whats going on with that. When I get it it's gonna get posted though.

Edhochuli is on tour right now, doing two months across the U.S. I don't know how up to date their tour schedule is, but all their dates can be found here. So first off I just wanna say that I was originally gonna just throw up some Reptilian, but after waiting on that dope split they did with Jowls I figured I might as well just throw Jowls up on here too. I met The Reptilian for the first time in South Bend at that Generic place, and then crashed at Russ' house for two nights. Dudes hang hard as fuck and hold down Kalamazoo really fucking hard. Russ lives at this spot called "The No Fun House", which ironically turned out to be pretty fun. One of the room mates, and I hate myself right now for forgetting his name (Shawn??) books shows at The Strutt and runs a small label (have not forgot to post your shit btw). Party animals kinda, these dudes hang hard as fuck. Really invested in the Mid West scene and true to the game.

Jowls, on the other hand, are strangers to me. They are a new band, a two piece, that formed from the ashes of Victor! Fix The Sun. I met them one time in Maryland way bahttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifck in the day but I didn't really kick it with them. I had heard that those dudes were in a new band but did not hear it until Dantilian told me about this hot new split they were doing. I looked em up and found their EP, which is pretty cool. It is called "Cunt Punch", and I know that that title might offend some people or piss them off but whatever. Def def def worth checking out (it is below).

Anyways, The Reptilian. They are pretty much the embodiment of the recent midwest sound. You know what I'm talking about, but would probably just attribute it to "the kind of music Native plays" or something. Native got big doing this stuff, but, The Reptilian have been doing this shit for quite some time. Longer, I don't know. Better, thats up to you. They do all that tapping stuff and have the shouty vocals. The bass is super driving and present in the mix. The Reptillian are kind of really groovy and bouncy, but have some heavier parts. Their older stuff is a little dirtier and http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifrough around the edges than "Boy's Life EP". Their drummer sings, and he has some Magic The Gathering cards hanging out in his house for decoration which I really hope are first editions.

They (Jowls) just got signed to Dog House Records and are doing an LP or something so watch out for that if you like Jowls. Park Jefferson are from Michigain. More or less this is the creative outlet of Nick Stuntsman of Merchant Ships / Mid West Pen Pals fame. A good bit of their material is acoustic, I don't know if he plays solo shows under this moniker but I would imagine that he does most of the writing.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and say that this band is really influenced by Pennsylvania stuff like Street Smart and Algernon. They do, however, still retain alot of their mid-west background. Their material is not the most original, but, it is still pretty really dope. The acoustic and electric tracks are good, although the quality of the acoustic songs are better than the electric. The Bicycle Sunday split songs were done well.

I think they are on "hiatus". Go figure, a Merchant Ships band breaking up. Don't worry, they will more than likely get back together. I would imagine Nick is going to keep on making songs.

So I have been sitting on this shit for like a month. I don't know for sure but I think I was given these tracks like right when they were finished. Both of these bands from California are somewhat fledgling but are made up of veterans of the game. The John Cota dudes are from the bay/Oakland I think. I know that one of the Cotas was in Versions, who I got to see/play with in Delaware a while back. Ten Thousand Leagues are from greater Los Angeles right? Those dudes were in rather popular bands such as Moldar, Calculator and ColorChromatic. Their bassist, Hannah, was in Lautrec but she is leaving the band I think. I know she isn't going to be on their upcoming tour, being replaced by my boy Andrew of MOLDSURI fame.

So yeah, tour. Both of these bands are going on tour real soon, but not together. I think its kind of really silly but at the end of the day I don't really care because I still get to see both bands and kick it hard. Ten Thousand Leagues are doing the entire country, while John Cota are doing this little mini guy:

Now, about this split. First of all, one of the better releases to come out lately. I have been kinda slackin off with Chug because I've been busy, but also because nothing has really got me stoked enough to post it in a while. I've gotten some good shit, and if anyone has gotten ahold of me and given me something and I said I'll post it I will, but I'm not that motivated right now. No offense, just keeping it real. I've been waiting to post this shit for a long time, so last night when Max gave me the green light I got pretty stoked and kind of regretted half assing a post the other night just to keep up with the Jones'. The only lame thing is that I was hoping to get that exclusive first post shit, but I failed. Google the bands and you get a mediafire link. Idiot. But then I saw it on another blog posted like a week ago. Broken heart.

The split starts off with John Cota. If you have never heard them before, its harder screamo that sounds like some of the stuff going on in Europe. Its dark, but not sludgey or grindy or anything. Nice skrimz dynamics all around. They get really heavy alot but its always interesting. They get down with the chugs, which I can always respect. Dynamically they sound like a heavier, less technical Daitro or Aussitot Mort or something. Maybe Who Calls So loud, musically, is kind of similar at some points. I don't know, it's just nice to hear a screamo band that isn't doing the fast euro twinkly techy stuff. I really like the recording quality as well. I hope that the band recorded it themselves. I also put their demo ep thing down at the bottom as well. I got the split because I was asking around for more John Cota shit and I was gonna post this band a long ass time ago.

The second half of the split is all Ten Thousand Leagues. Super fucking hard. Super fucking heavy. Their side starts with some sound clip and I don't know what it is from. Ten Thousand draw more on old school hardcore and punk dynamics, so their stuff is less screamo and more hardcore in nature, although they do have some skrumz elements floating around. Again, recording quality on this side of the split is pretty really dope. One of the better heavy bands that are playing right now. Heavier for us emo pussies, but not metalcore or anything you know? It's like moshing but without the basketball shorts. It's okay to mosh in your American Apparel if you want to. You can even two-step.

I like this split because it isn't flashy. Both bands produce solid tracks and sound good separately, as a cohesive side and as a while album. Although I must admit that I kind of prefer the John Cota side, both bands fucking kill it so hard on this split. Kill em dead. "You marks are feelin to hate it". So please, please, please, a thousand times please, download the fuck out of this and tell your entire crew how good this is. Then go and get a fucking copy from RADICAL FRIENDS, or, even better, go see these bands on their tours and get the split then. Below is the split, the John Cota demo thing, and a video that is unrelated. Oh yeah, Ten Thousand Leagues put their demo on a split 12 inch with Archetypes. The Archetypes tracks are recycled from their album "Steps". You can buy that somewhere on the internet, I don't really know where aside from Olhar De Vidro. I would imagine Ten Thousand would have them on tour. Anyways, that's below as well.

I have been sick all weekend. I feel like I am dying. The coldest of head colds. Last week Matsuri and Father;Lonesome played in my living room. There were six of us here, so we sat on the couch and played Magic while Matsuri and Father played. I'm going to throw up some F;L in the next few days, I've just been Jabba The Hut in my weakened state. Heres Matsuri's entire set:

Anyways, this post is about Pussy Babies, which is made up of Cheese and I. You may know Cheese from his late label Unity Through Harmony, his bands An Archer's History or Our Parents Forgot Us, or from being the мища roadie and manager on all of our musical endeavors excluding our most recent tour. I wasn't going to ever post these but Cheese is going back to jail and I miss him already. FREE PIMP CHEESE.

We started this project last summer but never really did anything aside from fuck around every once in a while. Recently Cheese rode his bike up to Olympia from Santa Cruz with his friend and he lived with me for like two months. During the Stanley Cup we got drunk and wrote these two songs. Each one took a day. We wanted to write more but we never had the time. I also wanted to record them decently but he left to go back to Pennsylvania before anything could go down.

This shit isn't that good, but its cool. Pretty simple and kinda sloppy. Pretty jankity recordings but its not horrible. Sounds decent for a bedroom with a single microphone. We recorded them so we could remember them later, but I wanted to put these up en memorium. I hope that whenever we meet up again we can do more. The three tracks are below. Word.

New Creases is a seriously rad pop-punk band from Columbus, Ohio. If you are into bands like Jawbreaker, Lifetime, The Replacements, Hot Water Music, or any of that kind of gruff, gravelly No Idea sounding stuff then this is definitely for you. Energetic, nostalgic, yet still completely original. And their cover of "The Boat Dreams From The Hill" is money in the fucking bank! I will be seeing this band at Best Friend's Day in late August and I am excited as fuck about it. I have been playing this shit none stop and cannot recommend it enough for these wonderful summer months.

They have more releases but I can't seem to find them anywhere on the internet. You can buy their demo and some of their 7"s from a few distros if you just google that stuff. Get into it!

Desaparecidos was a short lived punkish band featuring Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes fame. Now, say what you want about Conor being either annoying as fuck or a musical genius, I don't really give a shit either way, but the dude can write songs. I used to get down with Bright Eyes to an extent, but Desaparecidos blow Bright Eyes out of the water. If you don't agree I don't care and I certainly do not want to hear about it.

I heard that Desparecidos was Saddle Creek's super group, but I have never heard of any of the other people in the band and I have also never heard of any of their other bands. Wouldnt Bright Eyes be the super group because Tim Kasher toured with them or something? It doesn't matter. I first heard this band in high school and was into it but wasnt super duper into it for whatever reason. They always held a certain mystique because the band was short lived and their sound was so much different than Bright Eyes.

As you can imagine, the vocals and lyrics are a huge part of this project. Conor is still all sad and stuff, but alot of these songs have alot of social and political satire and commentary. Alot of Cursive-esque references to marriage and stuff, talks about money and stuff too. Musically its super 90's alterna-punk like At The Drive-In and stuff like that. Chordy rhthyems, hardcore and punk dynamics to an extent, keyboards, punk/pop punk drums with Conor Oberest singing in a bathtub full of ice.

The band got back together last year for some festival or something in Omaha. I havn't looked for videos of it but I can imagine it was pretty cool. I also read somewhere, but I didn't check the date of the article, that they may have another full length recorded and ready to go but they are just sitting on it because they feel like it.

Below is all of their songs. They were featured on like two additional compilations or something but the songs are all recycled. We have for your listening pleasure their fully "Read Music / Speak Spanish", their single of "The Happiest Place on Earth" which had two unreleased jams on the B- side, and a Saddle Creek compilation with two Desaparecidos songs, one of which was exclusive. We Were Skeletons Again

So uh, We Were Skeletons (who are on tour with the Caution Children right meow) are on two new releases. The first is a 4 way split with Florence & Libby, Kids and Paxton which is a ten year anniversary thing for Square of Opposition. The second is a Topshelf Records 2011 Label Sampler that has like over 60 bands on it. Its such a fucking big compilation, but thats fine now that we live in the future and you can just download everything.

Now about that split. I only listened to it one time through, right now, so don't really take too much stock in what i have to say about it. I haven't ever listened to Florence & Libby, but I'm not really digging it too much. I don't really like the vocals that much. I have also never listened to this band Kids, but I like their songs on this release. Short punk songs are always pretty cool. Nothing too new or mind blowing, but its pretty cool. Both the We Were Skeletons Songs are pretty dope. They sound alot different from their previous material, but thats always an interesting thing. Its not on the same scale, but its like when Kidcrash and Raein switched their sound up and some people were like "this is sick" and other people were like "merp merp I only like the old stuff". Its cool though because I was totally the second person for a minute. But these Skeletons songs aren't drastically different. Still punk music, but they are straying away from the screamo sound of their full length and the split they did with us and going more in a post punk direction. Its funny because every other band on this release has like 5 songs but WWS has two. All their songs have Moleman in the title. He's a cool kid. The last band on this is Paxton, and I think I have listened to them before. Its pretty cool, more post punk stuff. Again, not really my cup of tea but its a nice listen. You should get that pre order by the way and support all these bands.

So the second thing on here is that Top Shelf super sampler. There are 68 bands on here, but only 23 are actually on the label. I guess that means that the label has worked with them, because they are "family". That means the remaining 45 bands on this thing are their friends. There are some big names on this release, but from what I can tell nothing "new". I'm not going to list all the bands and stuff but you can check out the list here. Now, one thing about this release that you should know, besides the fact that it is really dope, is that you can get it for free from Topshelf. You just go to their website or any of their social networking sites and "like" the release. I think. You either like the release or the label. I know if you tweet and twit you can get it for free too. This is a pretty cool way to get an album because, you know, its free, but I think its kind of funny that you have to tweet and like something to get it. If they want me to take this down so they get more tweets and likes I will gladly take this down. Go buy stuff from Topshelf because they are pretty cool dudes and put out some cool stuff. The album is so fucking big I put it into three files. MASTER OF THE INTERNET SOLVES ALL PROBLEMS.

Below are the two albums in three files. Pre order the one, and then go like the other. Support all the labels the best you can. Its summer and everyone is touring and shit and I know it can be a pain in the ass to get money together to pay for shows and buy records when you have a tight budget, but its going to a good cause. Even if you can't give anyone money you should still go to some shows this summer because it kind of sucks playing to an empty room. I haven't posted any videos in a while it feels, so here is a completely unrelated video that I have been bumping to death.

So Arse Moreira is going to release an actual discography sometime soon. Its going to be on tape and ten inch. The tape is being put out by utarid tapes / od athletics / Désordre Ordonné, and the ten inch is being put out by Dame un Abrazo. Look up the labels if you are unfamiliar with them. I have only heard of Utarid Tapes, who fuchttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifking rule by the way. Real fast: if you haven't checked out what Utarid is putting out you need to stop reading this shit and go to their website. So many bands you like have worked with them.

If you checked out the post I did on A.M a while back (here) and snagged all that shit you pretty much have everything on this discography. I got the files like two days ago and I think I only heard like four tracks which I hadn't already listened to. I think these "new" tracks are demos and an acoustic song.

As per Charley's request, I'm not putting it up for download but instead linking yall to a soundcloud where everything is located. Once the release is out I'll chug it, but I have a feeling that someone will rip it off of Soundcloud and post it on a blog before then. If that happens, I'm just going to throw up the good quality tracks that I have. Thats the general rule of thumb for anything that I get from bands and they don't want it to get leaked. If its already on blogs I'll throw it up, and if its a jankity rip I'll put up the good files so at least people have better quality tunes.

Cloud Mouth is a punky post hardcore band from Chicago. I got all these tracks from Damian the other day but I thought I got some of their older shit a while ago. These dudes live in Chicago at Strangelight. Real tight spot, I'm pretty sure there are some dope shows (Dope Show) coming up this summer. I would imagine that this is the new go to spot for touring bands rolling through Chicago because Summer Camp closed down or whatever.

It kind of sucks because I really can't think of a good way to describe this band. Like there is no easy way. I can't just call them a punk band because there is alot of other shit going on in these songs. It's kind of alot to take in. I mean I have only seen them once live, but I didn't remember them sounding like their recordings, you know? Maybe I'm wrong but live they seemed way more raw and rough, whereas these recordings are pretty crisp and reverby. Super dark atmosphere though. There is kind of a dark undercurrent to all of these tracks, and sometimes shit gets real trippy. Like I said, there is alot going on on these tracks.

Give these dudes a listen if you haven't heard them already. My favorite release of theirs is the split with Cougar Den. That band ruled too. If I'm not mistaken Cloud Mouth is about to go on tour with The Reptilian and hit up some midwest places. Should be a really really dope time and you should go check it out if they roll through your spot. Go to their websites and check that shit out. Below is all of their stuff I guess. Cowboys Are Indians are a totally under-rated screamo band from New Hampshire. Maybe the reason they aren't that well known is because they are from New Hampshire. I first heard about these dudes, as many of you probably did, when I got the split they did with Cassettes on Fire a while back. I picked up that shit in Lancaster when Cassettes toured with The Caution Children. Speaking of The Caution Children, they are going on tour with We Were Skeletons real soon so check that shit out.

After I heard that split, I remember getting on the internet and trying to find more of their stuff. I wasn't a master manipulator of the internet at that point so I didn't find shit except for their myspace. I couldn't really find anything on them so I just thought they broke up or something. I'm almost positive I mySpace messaged them for shows up in New Hampshire but nothing ever worked out.

Recently however, I was talking to Rob from Bear Records and he was telling me about how he is going to put out this hot new Cowboys Are Indians LP. At first I was like "Fuck yeah this band is still a band" and then I was like "Yo give me them tracks". I don't think he gave me anything.

When we went on tour we got to play with Cowboys Are Indians in Allston with Caffeine Patch. I was so fucking stoked all day about seeing them finally. I was kind of surprised when I talked to people at the show and people were saying that they never listened to Cowboys, so I was talking them up and shit. I think that they ended up playing last that night, but I don't really remember.

They fucking killed it. I couldn't tell you if they played new shit or old shit, but every song was tight. It isn't super technical, although the drummer rips it the fuck up. Duel vocals are goin' on which sound nice together. No bass player and two guitarists. Kind of sounds like Storm The Bastille, maybe. Surprisingly European sounding without it sounding like a generic imitation, you know? Still really pretty punk and hardcore though.

For serious, once you hear this band you are going to kick yourself in the fucking face for not getting into this shit sooner. Dick Zoo is a weird band from Boston. I think. I don't really know how many people are in the band, but I know that Jake from the Sharpest, who is my boy, is in this band. It sounds like there are two dudes, one playing synth or something and Jake playing drums, but I don't know. I've listened to the tracks that Jake has sent me on the internet a few times and it was cool but I was never really wasted enough to get down with it. That and I was always like watching Duel Survivor or something. Tonight I am wasted enough.

Now, it doesn't sound like Lightning Bolt or anything, but its the same idea I guess. It sounds like alot of that Providence noise art stuff that Load Records was putting out a few years ago. I was super into Lightning Bolt in high school so I am somewhat familiar with that whole noise scene. This shit is similar I guess.

The recordings are really low fi. Macbook low fi, although I do not know how they recorded. Hopefully Jake reads this and comments with some more information. I don't know. Its cool, its just really noisy and shit. The loudest thing in the recordings are the drums, which are pretty sporadic and fast. Blasty kind of but not really. There are vocals that are really distorted. I heard Jake wears a dress when they play.

One of the albums, "Rosa Parks", is an actual Dick Zoo album. The other songs are just tracks that Jake sent me when I demanded more Dick tracks. Some of them have different artist info, like Lesbian Hand Grenade. I don't know if it is a different band or something, but its the same dude(s) and I'm posting it anyways. Point of the story is that the "Random Songs" link are an assortment of tracks I got and I'm not really sure if they are all technically Dick Zoo songs. Jake is in the band The Sharpest, and they are really really cool. They are super groovy and funky and if I had one of their albums (and a girlfriend) I would totally have sex to it.

Sohns (say it like suns) is a five piece hardcore band from Texas. They just got done with their tour which overlapped with 424/7 on like seven occasions. It was the shit. On this tour, however, their lineup was changed a little. Their bassist couldn't make the tour for whatever reason, so one of their guitarists played bass. Ironically, that fool is some jazz trained bass wiz (THE WHIZ PLAYS THE BASS) and he fucking slayed it.

Before I talk about their actual tunes I need to say something about their gear and their tone. Honestly, their equipment was insane. Not insane like 3 pedal boards, but insane like "holy fuck everything sounds perfect". Best bass tone I have ever heard. The guitar was loud as fuck and surprisingly technical for a band like this. Obviously some parts had to be altered due to the switch from two guitarists to one, but still. And of course, the drum set that they use is fucking amazing. I don't know what kind it is because I don't really care, but it sounded so fucking good at every single venue I saw them in. All their equipment was top notch (when it was working correctly). Oh yeah, they were loud as shit too. Blue Letter loud status, but with like 20 less speakers. My ears hurt just thinking about how loud they are as a five piece.

Their tunes are dark. Very dark and driving. Its heavy as shit at times but never like sludgy or anything. They also throw in weird shit here and there, normally percussion related. I never listened to these dudes before tour, so I asked some people what they sounded like. No one really gave me a good description, except one person said it sounded like the music that would be playing in Hell. That sounded pretty cool to me. Before we left four tour Sohns played at Barclay House and some people and I walked over to check it out. At first I was more focused on Alex's stage antics to really listen to the music, but those fucking drums were spot on. These records are good, don't get me wrong, but you have to see Sohns live to get the full effect. They are alot heavier live. At first, like first song I saw, I thought Alex's vocals were kind of whatever, but the more I listened to them and saw them the more they really grew on me.

They have been a band for a really long time, like five years or something like that. They used to have a girl in their band, and that is why the bands name is "sohns" and not "sons". That's what I heard at least. Their most recent recordings, which is "to ward it off and drown it out", were recorded at that Red Room place up in Seattle where Native recorded Wrestling Moves. Dope huh? The other thing down there for download is a split that they did with The Grasshopper Lies Heavy. They are really dope too, hadn't heard them til I got this split but it is really cool.

Touring with these guys was a complete blast. Best dudes. Best tunes. Best times. I also fell head-over-heels in love with their merch girl. They are trying to find labels to put out some of their shit on vinyl eventually, so if you put out records please please please listen to this and get ahold of them if you like what you hear. Ordstro is the face of modern music to come.

I first met these dudes last year when we went to California for a four day stint of shows them in the bay and Los Angeles. you know that weird feeling you get when you meet someone for the first time but you know you guys are going to be really tight, tight like old friends tight? Yeah. That's Ordstro.

Three dudes playing power-violence way too goo. Real powerviolence. Real actual power-violence. The lyrics are all about politics and shit I guess. Henry and Chris, who play guitar and drums, are brothers, like the dudes in Good Charlotte. I like to imagine that's why they work so fucking well together. Some of the recordings have a bass on em, there was some other kid in the band for a time or something but for as long as I've known em they have been rolling around three deep.

I was originally going to do some kind of interview with Carlos, talking about things like the hardcore d.i.y scene and politics and stuff. I was looking forward to talking shit and stuff, but it never really ended up happening that way. After like two missed contacts because I sleep in, we finally talked yesterday. Ordstro has five releases available downstairs, the most recent being the 2011 summer tape. They just put that shit out not too long ago. It was recorded at Texas Toast and I think Henry mixed it. I forget. All of their shit sounds so good, but their new shit is the dopest IMO. In My Opinion. Download all of it if you like "fast hardcore with breakdowns", they do it better than most of the other bands I've heard who try to do this.

Seriously though, super community minded individuals who actually give a fuck about their peers and their scene. Don't be a douche, download this. Go buy all of their merch too, buy it when you see them on tour. They are some of my closest friends, and we are working together quite alot in the future, which I couldn't be more excited for.

Two posts in like five minutes. I just got off tour with Innards, and they have been talking about this split for a long ass time. I didn't know it was out yet. I still don't know if the pressing is done. Anyways, Innards are dope skreemz and Two Knights are noodle dudes. Both are from the Lone Star State. The Innards songs are dope as fuck, per usual, and the Two Knights songs are pretty cool as well. First time listening to that band but im down with it. Down with the sickness. Go buy this when you can. I don't know shit about Two Knights, but if they have some merch you should pick it up. You should also pick up some Innards merch (Tracing 10inch and our split 7inch whenever that comes out). Innards are going on tour again this winter with The Reptillian, last I heard, so keep an ear out for that.

On a semi related note, since I just got back from tour I'm going to be throwing up some jams from bands I met in the last two weeks. I'm pretty stoked about that. Thanks for everyone who came out and kicked it and shit.

Yo, hot new Baltimore skrims. Sea Breezes Justin from Age Sixteen, Sawhorse, A Perfect Kiss and like 25 noise/ambient projects. I don't know any of the other dudes, but one of them is Tommy from Age Sixteen's brother. The other dudes in this band were in Distance of, Safari Zone and Shadow Gov't. I honestly havnt heard these recordings yet, but, I had the opportunity to hear some demoish stuff form one of their practices and it was pretty sweet. Its solid skrimz mixed with ambient stuff and it flows really nicely. They always scream though, never singing or any other type of vocal style that can be used by a band like this. Honestly, this band sounds alot like Age Sixteen, but its not a bad thing at all. It's not a rip off, but more of a logical progression from that band all that stuff. Same guitar tone, kind of, and similair overall sound. I personally was a huge Age Sixteen fan, so its really nice to have this band be around. Check it out and support this band whenever you can. They are actually playing in Baltimore tomorrow evening at the Bell Foundry. Heres a video and the demo.

I don't know what the insider or proper term for this kind of music is, but its basically 80's influenced trippy lo-fi pop. Theres a bunch of people making music like this, so i hear, but the only group like this I have ever really listened to was Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffitti. You know, that kind of stuff.

The Shy Violet is the current moniker of Jordan Romero. He is from Frederick, Md, but now is in Savanaha, Georgia. I think. He used to be in Drug Money and made acoustic music as The Laurel Tree. Basically Jordan writes and records all this stuff himself and then sometimes plays them live with a band and other times he does it by himself.

I heard that The Shy Violet made a music video, like a real music video. I think he is getting more popular in this scene. He did some tours with Spermwhales which seemed to go well. Peaks, the most recent release, is going to be put on vinyl, I'm pretty sure, which is going to rule. I'm really stoked to hear that shit on wax. Download the three shits below. Calculator are a really tight hardcore band from the Los Angeles area I think. Isn't it something like they go to school all over but are from LA? I don't know really, but I think that is correct. This band plays a style of hardcore that is influenced by multiple genres, obviously, and sounds similar to fellow California natives Touche Amore and Comadre, kind of. I mean there are the like harder hard parts, then the pretty parts, and some driving parts here and there. The new shit has a really fucking heavy part. I remember last summer around the 4th of July I booked these guys a show in Maryland and after the show I was smoking a blunt with most of this band and the dudes in Burn Idols when the guitarist of Calculator and I started taking about being in bands and shit. I don't remember the entire conversation but I do remember that he was talking about how the point of being in a band like this is to come up with really intricate music, shit that is challenging to play, and just get the songs on lock-down. Musical progression and shit. I thought that was really cool, and I think about that when I listen to Calculator. I still think that they generally put the vocals up a lil too high in the mix, but thats just me. The instrumentation is fucking boss, and sometimes its hard to really hear that shit, especially if you are using jankity laptop speakers.

So, below are two links for all of their material. There is a link for These Roots Grow Deep, which is a collections LP of all their shit from their past EP's and splits and what not. I think that they have had a shit ton of releases that culminated in These Roots. My friend has this on vinyl and it sounds fucking sick. The other link is for their hot new shit, New Forms. You should go to their website, which is right here, and buy the preorder for New Forms, which is coming out on Melotov. For real though, Melotov is pumping out the good ass records recently. I mean that label has always ruled, but she is cornering the market on this good ass California music. And, for real, shes a really cool person. Really nice.

Calculator is going to raffle off a test press of New Forms between people who get that pre order, so all you collectors should jump on that shit. I don't know whats good with the head count on Roots, but you should also get that shit before it sells out. They have some other gear, like a shirt and a monster patch, that is pretty wrad.

For real. For real though. Buy their shit online so they have them gas muns. Go see them on tour with The Saddest Landscape west coast kids. You know you want to go to these shows because TSL hasnt been over here in like 7 years or something.

I don't really know what to talk about right now. Vancouver just won game two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs because the Boston goalie fucked up super bad. Idiot.

This split is going to be put out on 7 inch by Word Problems and Texas Toast. Innards is from Fort Worth, Texas and мища is from Baltimore, MD. If you don't know these bands you can check out previous posts where we actually gave enough shits to describe the groups. We were hoping to have the wax by our combined tour, but complications here and there have pushed the record's release back to like the end of the month or something. I don't really know. мища has one song and Innards put two tracks on this split. Seeing as we wont have the vinyl of this release, both bands are going to be selling it on alternative mediums. If you can't figure it out, 424/7 is, obviously, 420 424/7

I'm posting this now for two reasons, the most important being that it has already been posted up on some other blogs so theres no point in me waiting any longer. The second is promote tour I guess. Ampere - Like Shadows

I don't really try as hard as I once did to get these hot new albums first and throw them up here, so I let all these other blogs go out and get em for me. There are only so many new records that are coming out that I really give a shit about, so my interest in intensive blog lurking has wained dramatically. Last night in between bong sessions and Magic The Gathering battles I saw that Damian Jozwiak, some jaded kid from Indiana who seemingly spends most his day on the internet and runs a tumblr music blog called Re-Winded Tapes posted up this album. If he had it then I would imagine that he got it from Circling The Drain or something, because that blog seems to be pretty on top of their shit.

Ampere's new full length, Like Shadows, sounds like a continuation of All Our Tomorrows End Today, which arguably was their best release as a whole. They had some preview songs up on soundcloud for a minute and one of those tracks was a second part to a AOTET song, Escapism. This is the first release the band has put out since their split with Off Minor back in '08, so of course this shit is a BIG FUCKING DEAL. It seemed that Ampere took a back seat to Will Killingsworths recording profession and his slew of recent side projects (Weaklings, Failures, Vaccine).

Like Shadows is ridiculously good. I'm serious. Obviously anything this band puts out will be bad-ass, but this is a really solid album, which like the new Beau Navire, does not have any fluff tracks on it. 15 fucking awesome tracks ranging from like 20 seconds to like 2 minutes. I don't really know what else to say about the album. If you like Ampere you already know what you are getting yourself into: no one else sounds like Ampere.

The release for this record is coming up in Easthampton right? Its like in the first half of June I think. They are also playing the You and I reunion in July. I would imagine that Clean Plate is putting out this record, but there might be some other people involved. If you like the fucking record buy it. This is one records that is really worth your money.

So, if you haven't had enough from this blog lately, here's more Algernon Cadwallader. I think that's three in a week. I really thought I would be sick of these guys by now, but every time I see them I'm reminded of how much I like them. Here is their new LP, Parrot Flies, which should be coming out sometime this summer. The band is on tour right now across the U.S. playing a lot of these songs. I managed to see them on their first night of tour.

To be honest I haven't listened to this yet, I just got it and decided to post this first. Sounded good live though.

Beau Navire - Hours

Album of the year. React With Protest is releasing Beau Navire's newest effort to support their European tour thats going down in June. I heard about this album leaking from the kid who does re-winded tapes, but his link is dead so I got this album from Circling The Drain.

The quality of the record is superb. All the levels are perfect. It isnt as spazzy as Life Moves, but that doesnt mean it isn't skrumzy as balls. Super mature too. Grown up screams. Aside from "No Ghost", this is the record I have been most excited about so far this year. You know how every album has those like three tracks that are the bangers, and then the ones that are cool and then sometimes there are those filler tracks? Well, this album is, literally, all club bangers. The intrumentation is superb, the vocals are really well done (only one set of vox now? No, but they don't utilize dual vocals as much as Life Moves), and they have started using more ambient guitar tracks to excentuate the soft/loud stop/start dynamics. Also some obvious hardcore dynamics involved. Their guitar tone and melodies are on point 100%.

Your new favorite band, and in the running for best dudes in California. Hopefully they will be able to do some touring in America. I hope that this surge of material from Beau dosnt burn them out, because they need to keep on pumping out the jams. Insert some stupid tagline about screamo and d.i.y this and that. Tempest

Tempest is a Canadian crusty post-metal band. Sort of Hardcore, I've seen them get compared to Trainwreck, Wolves in The Throne Room and that kind of stuff. I found out about this band on some blog a while ago, I forget where. Sorry. There is also a band called Tempest from California, or at least the internet says this other band is from California. The Cali-Tempest has a release from 2011, Canadian Tempest hasn't done anything since 2010. I don't think the Canadians moved down to California.

They have two albums out (unless their bandcamp does not contain their discography), a full length and a 7". I don't know what record labels, if any, are involved with this band. The fully is super fucking heavy and really metal influenced. Mosh worthy. Deep sound clips and stuff. I think I've listened to this album every day since I downloaded it. The 7" is way more crusty. Not as good recording quality as the fully, but its still really good. This one isn't as mosh worthy. ITS HEAD BANG WORTHY. When you hear these tracks, if you don't immediately out on a Thizzle Dance face you are doing it wrong.

Canyons is a melodic hardcore band from Kansas City. Really good stuff. Met them in Missouri last summer at a birthday party. Really good dudes who get down with the pots hard. Bobby, the vocalist, runs a label called The Ghost Is Clear, and you can download alot of their stuff off their sites. You should buy his stuff so he can put out more records. Canyons are getting bigger and bigger everything I talk to them, which is pretty awesome. They deserve it. I highly recommend you download all the stuff I have below and you go see them on tour.

By now, I think everyone and their (most likely pissed off) mother has heard of the LA County teen-phenom rap group Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All aka OFWGTKA, or, more simply, Odd Future. With sold out shows across the country and the ultimate hype man in Tyler, The Creator, as well as the enigmatic presence (or lack thereof) of 16 year old wunderkind Earl Sweatshirt, coupled with controversial lyrics and mastery of internet media, it's not really a surprise they've become as big as they are.

But with personalities like Earl and Tyler seemingly bearing all the spotlight themselves, it's easy to forget about the other nine active members of OFWGKTA.

For Frank Ocean (real name Christopher "Lonny" Breaux), that might just be what the doctor ordered. He has casually released a great mixtape without having to face any of the pressures of the blogosphere or mass media hype machine. After moving from his native New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Ocean quietly landed to LA and signed to Def Jam Records, by whom he was been almost entirely ignored. He has worked on music for artists like Justin Beiber and Beyonce, yet had become so fed up with his label that by the time Odd Future had begun to hit full "swag", he self-released his mix tape for free on the group's website, even going so far as to take care of the (completely fucking awesome, let's be honest) cover art himself.

In his own words:

"i. did. this. not ISLAND DEF JAM. that's why you see no label logo on the artwork that I DID. guess its my fault for trusting my dumbass lawyer and signing my career over to a failing company. fuck Def Jam & any company that goes the length of signing a kid with dreams & talent w/ no intention of following through. fuck em. now back to my day. i want some oatmeal and toast. brunch swag."

Nostalgia, Ultra. showcases a level of maturity and aesthetic that most of Odd Future's other releases are largely lacking - for all their punch and swagger, they lack Ocean's ability to bridge the gap between indie mix tape and a cohesive album. For all the rejection and anger he must feel towards the mainstream industry, Ocean has channeled everything he has learned into the best Odd Future release thus far.

Perhaps the best track on the album is the opener, "Strawberry Swing," which features a Coldplay sample from their track of the same name. He begins by singing an excellent melody while reminiscing about an idyllic childhood, before taking note of his own mortality ("We are all mortals, aren't we?/At any moment this could go"), and finally imagining human civilization taking off in spaceships as they leave "millions" and a burning world behind. Pretty heavy stuff for a 23 year old hip-hop producer whose peers are now infamous for glorifying rape, cocaine, violence, homophobia, and even necrophilia. Where other members of the group would simply go for tactics of shock and awe, Ocean digs a bit deeper. On "Songs For Women," he jokes that he couldn't "...play guitar like Van Halen...but you still came around, ate your lunch with me," before later admitting that, "Every time a nigga asks me/If I sing songs to get at women/I say yeah."

By the end of the song he realizes that fame alone cannot provide the basis for true love: "Now every time somebody asks me/If I sing songs to get my women/I say no, they say okay I don't believe it/I say nope, I swear I never do it...All these songs are for women/Songs for women/Songs for you baby/Songs for you."

And by the end of the song you, yourself, have probably fallen in love with Frank Ocean. Let's hope that we get the chance to fall in love with him for years to come.

Algernon Cadwallader recently put out this live EP. I guess its an EP. Quality is amazing for a live album. All your favorite songs are on here. If you have information about the show this was recorded at, or just want to brag about how you were there and can totally be heard singing way too loud to all the songs you kind of know the lyrics to, tell us about it. Whats the point of going to a show if you can't brag about it, right?

Rightious live recording. I'd imagine there are physical copies being made or being sold. I heard they were doing a live tape, so this might be it. I don't know. I downloaded this because I thought this was their new fully. Either way I wasn't disapointed.

Beau Navire / Suffix Split

Oh shit. Three new Beau Navire tracks and two new from Suffix. Beau Navire is from the San Francisco bay area and has members of Spectres, Loma Prieta and Iwrotehiakusaboutcannabalisminyouryearbook. Suffix is from Chicago and has members of Coping and Lautrec.

This split is hard hitting. Suffix has the A side. The vocals are pretty harsh, but they sound fucking great. The instrumentation and quality is pretty boss too. Really catchy riffs and good lyrics. I have a crush on their vocalist. I never really paid much attention to this band until now; hate to say I was missing out.

Beau Navire is, by process of elimination, side B. Their side starts out spacey, then gets really spastic and wild. Their recording quality on this record is different than their other releases: a little more lo-fi and the guitars are lower in the mix. This side of the record, in general, sounds way more experiential than anything else I have heard by them. Still driving punk parts and skrimzy what-have-yous, but there are a few added elements. Solid side though.

Both bands did a killer job on this split. Hurry and pick up your copy so Beau Navire can get some more money for Europe. What is Suffix up to? Give them money to do the stuff that they want to do as well. This was released by Bear Records, Forever Escaping Boredom, and A Mountain Far Records. Please go pick up a copy from whichever label you chose.

If you don't like Kid Dynamite you might want to check to make sure you still have a pulse. Featuring members of flagship punk acts like None More Black, Lifetime, Paint It Black, and the Loved Ones, Kid Dynamite broke open new ground in the hardcore scene with the the release of their debut LP in 1998, the year after Lifetime's final LP, Jersey's Best Dancers, was released. Guitarist Dan Yemin's trademark buzz saw power chord mentality and Jason Shevchuk's trademark vocal style have influenced an unfathomable amount of bands.

2000's Shorter, Faster, Louder was a more streamlined and polished approach to the band's song and featured classic tracks like "Cheap Shot Youth Anthem". Shevchuk's departure to return to school was followed by the subsequent break up of the band and a release of a compilation of b-sides entitled, of course, Cheap Shot Youth Anthem. The band has played two reunion shows and, thank goodness, Yemin is still very active between Lifetime reunions and touring and writing for Paint It Black.

Verse En Coma was a short lived band from Virginia, I guess. They are part of the extensive Pg. 99 family and only have one release as of now. Their Last.fm page says all that you need to know:

VERSE EN COMA was formed by the songwriting backbone of MALADY (Jeff Kane, Kevin Longendyke, Jonathan Moore) and joined by Darkest Hour/City of Caterpillar drummer (Ryan Parrish) and multi-talented vocalist Brian Markham. Most of the songs were written towards the end of Malady but re-vamped and enhanced with the joining of Parrish and Markham to the group. The results are an impressive and varied recording, which was engineered and executed by the band themselves over a several-year period.

Somewhere between the present day and unfortunate endings of Pg.99, City of Caterpillar and Malady, a “lost” recording was created but shelved for several years. Five dynamic tracks that collided with both artistic and industry red tape comprise the VERSE EN COMA debut release, “Rialto“. Finally though the dust has settled, the hurdles have all been jumped and “Rialto” will finally see the light of day as a dual-format 10″+CD release through Robotic Empire.

I couldnt find a video of a live performance, which sucks. I've been listening to this album really hard these past few weeks. I snagged it off some other blog, I forget which one though. Anyways, snag this, then snag that shit from Robotic Empire. Word

Alright, so if you are one of the more dedicated fans that both of these bands have acquired, you would already have this album by now. Its been leaked for quite some time. I know if the record is out yet, because I haven't checked the Topshelf web store in a minute, but I can that you can at least get the pre-order (snag it up while you can, FIRST PRESSING BRO).

We Were Skeletons are from Lancaster, PA. There are three people in that band. They have two songs on this release. "No Funeral" is way punk, super bass heavy. Sing along included as well. "Medication" is also more punk than skrimzork. The band's sound seems to be changing, moving away from the melodic hardcore of their full length (which is the fucking jam) and possibly going back to their punk roots? The new shit sounds more like "Summers" than the LP. STILL THE SHIT THOUGH. If you love the WWS boys you should jump on their TUMBLER and get the tracks by Matt (drums) and Justin's (Guitar) side project/claim to fame: ROCK AND ROLL TRUCK. There was talk of putting up either Raf (bass) and Justin's previous band's demo or EP or whatever (Hopalong Cassidy), as well as some of Justin's solo work.

The Saddest Landscape are from Boston and New York, right? Does one of them live in Jersey? I don't know. There are four people in that band. They have one song on this release, called "Shifting My Clarity". This shit is pretty fucking boss. Really intense and hard hitting. The instrumentation is pretty really impressive. Halfway through shit gets all spacey and post rock, bro, right before its all epic and shit. Then, the end, is full of Mike York feedback (He did the WWS song too). I'm not a huge gigantic fan of The Saddest Landscape, but, this song is pretty fucking awesome and I listen to it a good bit. Have they posted their summer tour dates yet, like made em public or whatever? If they did, check them out. If they didnt, well, just wait because its pretty cool.

The Saddest Landscape / We Were Skeletons Split

Megan & Amelia

Megan & Amelia is the solo project of Ryan Fleischer, bassist of Matsuri and DEERS!(rip). The Demo below, which I believe is all the recorded material that exists, is only two songs. The first song, "Son", is a short somber melody which incorporates a whistle in the vein of Andrew Bird. The second song, "Vai Vai", is a longer electric song that uses ambient background sounds and a tambourine. The whole demo clocks in at just under ten minutes, but over 80% of that is "Vai Vai".

If I had to compare Megan & Amelia to any other artists I would have that it sounds like a suicide letter written by Owen and Iron and Wine. Although the songs are not sad songs (i.e, he isn't crying or anything) you still get the overwhelming feeling of sorrow when you listen to Ryan sing. I don't know if this is what he was going for, but its what came out. I don't talk to him alot, but I hope that Ryan continues forward with this project and can put out a more proper release in the future. Below is the two song demo, and although I have no proper contact info for him I'm sure that if you wish to get ahold of him you can figure it out.

Voyage In Coma is a relatively new band from Baltimore and Washington, DC, respectively. Three of the dudes live in the greater College Park area, one live in Baltimore and I have no idea where the fifth lives. I assume there are five people in the band. The members of this group were in An Aria, Lonely Are The Brave, and The Lost Tourists. At one point in time the bassist from Age Sixteen was playing with VIC, but that has come to pass.

We played a show with this band January at Charm City Art Space but got there just as Voyage was ending. I had no idea who the band was at the time but heard some of what was going on from the sidewalk out front and was into. When we went inside I was stoked to see Steve, Billy and Henry and instantly got bummed about missing their set. If you have not heard of these dudes other bands, you should check them out. If Steve or Henry send me material I'm going to post it on here. It's dope.

Voyage In Coma is a really epic post-hardcore band, with guitar work that reminds me of earlier Pianos Become The Teeth. I was really surprised at how good their recordings turned out, and at how good the songs were in general. I normally don't get down with this kind of music too hard but I have been listening to at least half this album daily since I got it (Thanks for helping me with downloading shit Reid).

Voyage In Coma is going on a pretty short tour sometime in June I think, going up to Boston and then out to the Midwest. If you like this band please please please get ahold of them and help them book their tour. I don't know when it is/was, but Voyage is booked on some Senses Fail show sponsored by Etnies. Rock & Roll.

A while ago I posted this bands split with The Usual, and now they have recorded a four song Ep called "A Little Note To Say Hello". I was pretty stoked when the band sent me this release because it had been too long, in my opinion, since they produced any new recorded material. I assume the line up has stayed the same since the split mentioned above. Migrations is a three piece instrumental group from Hagerstown, MD.

"A Little Note" is darker than their previous material. Still somewhat atmospheric, the band tends to stay rather conservative in their song structure, creating steady progressions and solid melodies throughout all the songs. Imagine a chilled out Red Sparrows. I am glad that people are still making this kind of music. Also, any record that uses a sound clip from "There Will Be Blood" is worth listening to at least once. Download the E.P below and support the band in any way you can. You will not be disappointed.

A Little Note To Say Hello

This has already leaked here and there, but I figured it would be cool to do a post about this split myself. I don't know if the pre-orders have been sent out yet, but the release show was on March 26th in Baltimore. Aside from the two bands on the split, The Blue Letter, Dawn Treader, Pyramids, and Pansori played. All of the bands were awesome. There are some pictures from the show floating around facebook, but I have yet to see any videos. Both bands are three piece screamo groups. We Were Skeletons incorporates hardcore elements that make them sound like Off Minor and stuff like that. They are from Lancaster, Pa.I feel weird tlaking about мища's music because I play in that band, but we play violent and grindy screamo music. For the most part мища is from Baltimore, MD.

I don't know which side is the A side and which is the B, but lets just call the WWS side the A side. Their first song, "Wolves", is short and aggressive. The second song, "The Ghost of Jean Glam", is fucking heavy as shit. How many of these guitar tracks are just feedback? These songs are their best work yet (I haven't listened to the songs from the Saddest Landscape split, although I hear its floating around somewhere. I'm sure those are amazing as well).

Our side (мища's) stars with the song "A Mid Winter Night's Dream". We had a video of this song from the day we wrote it and I'm pretty sure it was "Girls Don't Buy Weed They Just Smoke It". Title didn't stick. Anyways, this song was the one that Dawn Treader jumped in on at the end. Its heavy. The second song is "...At Least We Got Capri Suns". Fun fact: The title is a reference to our short stay in Sierra Blanca's immigration holding cells. This song is straight rockabilly.

Mike York from Pianos Become the Teeth recorded all of the songs, and he also mastered ours. I don't know if he mastered We Were Skeleton's. Ben Sears did the art for the split, he has a pretty boss tumblr or whatever with pictures he drew. You can snag the 7-inch from Top Shelf or Black With Sap. 7" SPOTLIGHT #2: Two Headed Coin (Lincoln/Hoover Split 7")

So, after pretty much ignoring this blog (and the entirety of the internet as a whole for the past few months) I've finally mustered up the energy to do another one of my 7" spotlight posts. Thankfully Robbie has been keeping this blog afloat while I've been wanking off for the past few months.

This split 7", along with a select few others, seems to have reached an almost legendary status within the punk subculture. It seems to be posted on just about every blog (like this one) at all interested in the punk subculture of the 90's.

The fact that both bands existed for only a short time - Hoover from '92-'94 with a brief union in '98, and Lincoln from basically '93-'94, as well as the fact that the record was released Art Monk Construction, a fairly obscure label that featured early output from bands such as Kerosene 454, Darkest Hour, Frodus, and Texas is the Reason, seems only to add the allure that has grown around this record.

Both bands emerged within the hardcore landscape in an era in the D.C. punk scene where bands like Bad Brains and Minor Threat had given way to Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, and, eventually, Fugazi. Dischord Records put out Hoover's LP, The Lurid Traversal of Route 7, which has become a staple in any post-hardcore or emo collection. Lincoln, from the small, industrial state of West Virginia, namely Morgantown, a short drive from the state capital Charleston (and actually only a few hours where both your humble blog writers grew up) was very much a reaction to the D.C. punk scene which they must have had a close eye on. With over-driven octave chords and raw vocals they complimented Hoover's brooding, minimalist, yet epic approach on "Two Down". both bands helped pave the way for post-hardcore and screamo band into the latter part of the decade and continue to influence bands into the 21st century.

This record is definitely a must have in any collection, and is one of my favorite 7"s. Download everything else these bands recorded.

Two Headed Coin Split (1993)

Hot Cross was a hardcore band from Philadelphia that formed after Saetia broke up. They also shared members with Joshua Fit For Battle, Off Minor, Halo of Snakes, Neil Perry, You and I, and Interpol. Yeah, Interpol. The drummer of Hot Cross was their original drummer, but he left before the first record was cut. Cool, huh?

Hot Cross' sound was a mix of fast New England hardcore and virtuoso guitar work. Alot of their material is known for the battling guitar parts. If you have never heard of this band, you should check out wither Cryonics or Fair Trades and Fairwells. Below is everything they put out and a video. The song from the Holy Shroud split is the same song that was on the Protect compilation.

After Saetia Broke up, three of the five dudes formed Off Minor. The name comes from a Thelonious Monk song. I don't think this lineup recorded, because on of the bassist left and was replaced by one of the other guys brothers. The "new" bass player now runs Permanent Hearing Damage Recording Studio in Philly, and has worked with alot of bands that you probably enjoy.

Have you ever heard that saying about The Beatles and Elvis? Basically, you either are a Beatles fan or an Elvis fan. You can be both, but, at the end of the day you like one more than the other. I think the same goes for Hot Cross and Off Minor(Abridged Screamo History Lesson: Post Saetia, Behar, Smith and Roche formed Off Minor and Werner and Drudry formed Hot Cross. When Smith left Off Minor he played in Hot Cross). I was originally going to do a combined post with both those bands, but the Hot Cross is taking longer to upload than I anticipated and I have some time on my hands. I want to do this and at least one more post before I dedicate myself to a research paper I have been putting off for way too long.

Off Minor is no longer active, doing the whole "indefinite hiatus" thing. Their style of music was heavily reliant on intricate time changes and somewhat nonsensical progressions, relying more on jazz dynamics than those of their hardcore contemporaries. You can call them a Screamo band, but its more "punk-jazz" than anything else. I heard that when they played live they wouldn't stop playing music (or making noise) in between songs, rather using hand signals to communicate with each other. The musical ability possessed by this band is mind-blowing, granted that upon first listen some of the less-dedicated listeners might write this band off as too out there to really get into, which again brings me to the Hot Cross/Off Minor comparison. Hot Cross relied more on dueling guitar virtuosos and were relatively conventional in their song structures, whereas Off Minor focused more on intricate melodies involving the entire group and bounced between conventional structure and more experimental or abstract structures. My favorite release by Off Minor would have to be "The Heat Death of The Universe", so if you are intimidated by the amount of material presented, you should at just check that album out. On a side note, I think that I should start pointing out one release and recommending that to first-time listeners in the event that there is an overwhelming amount of music to sift through. Below is their discography, to the best of my knowledge, except for their split with Life Detecting Coffins, and a video. You can buy their records everywhere, by the way. Word.

So I'm at school right now, sitting in the computer lab waiting to go sleep through a movie about Japanese internment camps or something. I am using the high-speed internet to my advantage and getting about a week's worth of blog-trolling in, and I stumbled upon this gem over at Circling The Drain (tight blog, if you have never been there before). I have not gotten the chance to download this album yet, but I am 110% positive that is is fucking dope. The pre-orders should have been shipped I think (still waiting for my copy, RAMY) but this is the first time I have seen the rip online. I didn't want to wait until I got home to repost this, so below is some copy/pasta from CTR.

Finally, this split is almost out. Preorders will ship as soon as we receive our copies. One-sided 7" featuring one song from each band. "Eyelids" by Beau Navire and "I Don't Think I'm Glorybound, Bound, Bound" by Adobe Homes. Adobe Homes dabbles in a nifty group chant on this one and takes their chaotic sound up a notch. Beau Navire go a little heavier on "Eyelids." Still the same Beau Navire we know and love, only heavier. Did I mention it was a little bit heavier?

Beau Navire, as many of you should know by now, is a screamo powerhouse containing members of Loma Prieta and Iwrotehiakusaboucannabalisminyouryearbook. I can also say that these guys are some of the nicest dudes you will meet. Anyways, they have been pretty busy recently with two splits on the way (Adobe Homes and Suffix), a European tour that will include Cry Me A River, and a one-sided full length on React With Protest and Moment of Collapse. Beau Navire posted a link to the streaming of their album on their facebook via the Moment of Collapse website.

Anyways, a good friend of mine gave me a downloaded copy of the new album, entitled "Life Moves". I wasn't going to put this up just because I have a feeling I will be asked to take it down, but if its floating around the internet already I don't see any harm with sharing it. I know that I plan on buying this album, and you should too. Help them get to Europe and stuff by buying the Adobe Homes split and the pre-orders(are they up yet) for this record.

Beau Navire delivers some of the most solid American Screamo music I have ever heard on this album. Incorporating elements from both their affiliated acts plus expanding on traditional screamo dynamics, Life Moves is going to really blow people away. This record can be lumped into any of the vast categories that tend to divide the emotional hardcore scene, making it accessible to any fan of the genre without causing the band to loose its edge and more raw elements. I have greatly enjoyed watching this band evolve, over the internet for the most part, from an obscure California group to one of the leading American Skramz acts. El Sueño del Ranchero

El Sueño del Ranchero was a short lived experimental-grind band from Mexico City, Mexico that existed for one year. That year was 2004. The band broke up right before they were going to record a five song ep, making this lone demo the extent of their recorded material. After El Sueño del Ranchero broke up, the members decided that they wanted to continue playing music together but wanted to go in a new direction. They changed their style of playing and adopted the name "Arse Moreira".

Think early Daughters. I'm talking the first seven inch and maybe Canada Songs. Although they are way more experimental, you can really hear a heavy Daughters influence, not to the point of a rip-off but it is obvious that they intended to make grindcore in the vein of "Flattery Is A Bunch Of Fucking Bullshit". When the band isn't fucking your day up with the crazy shreds they are spacing out with jazzy and Spanish breaks. "Green Hills" shifts at around the one minute marker from Shredcity to Groovetown, which only lasts a minute. Two minute marker ques the acid trip, and minute three shifts back to the chaos. Aparently when they played shit got real intense. Blood shed intense. I bet that Jorge went to their shows and cried. The bassist is now in Te Lloraría Un Puto Río.

The demo was actually released on Existencia Records from Spain and The Awesome Machine in Belgium. Please download this album because it is worth the 9 minutes. Word.
